Species - Cetaci

Cetaci are a humanoid species from a planet with 95% water coverage. They make high quality defensive weapons and shields but their offensive weaponry is woeful until later Era Military Improvements come on-line. They prefer peaceful co-existence… fat chance they'll get much of that in this universe!

Strengths and Weaknesses
Restricted to Oxygen atmosphere worlds with temperate climate and low or standard gravity. Completely intolerant of even minor variations until appropriate Colony Improvements are researched. They compete directly with Human races, The Hive, Myrmodi and Saurischi for real estate.
Cetaci cannot build Marines.
Facility costs are cheap, and output good.
Hull Types are limited; they have plenty of shields but are short on weapon mounts.
Shields are good; large vessels have excellent shields. (Improved from Era 4).
Propulsion systems are excellent. A Military Improvement is available (Era 3).
Astro-Navigation is good. Hyper-Jump ratings are excellent.
ECM is good. A Military Improvement from Eras 10 helps.
Offensive Projectiles are limited and not much good. Fortunately, Military Improvements in Eras 5 and 7 will give them a boost.
Defensive Projectiles are good and get better (Era 6).
Beam Weapons are hopeless… well, not quite!
Military Improvements are numerous; rate of fire, interception, penetration, propulsion, deflection, evasion, ECM and Planet Attack can be improved.
Colony Improvements are numerous, improving a variety of factors.
SP costs for Era jumps are low for early Eras, more expensive later on. R&D is mostly fast.
Cetaci take a peaceful diplomatic stance which makes them receptive to unity pacts (very desirable!) and alliances as well as neutrality. Their average trade rating can make diplomatic relationships rewarding. Trade Rating improves in later Eras.
Base Rate of Fire is 25. Poor.

Default Production Queue
The first couple of times you play Cetaci, I recommend you configure the default production queue as follows, especially in the early game. Note they cannot build marines.
