Overlord Tournament

Postby Robjess » Sat Aug 21, 2004 9:47 am

We will shortly be opening registrations for the 2nd of the Run5 'First Release' Tournaments (the first one was the Rommel Master of Battle tournament).

This Tournament will be based on the "Overlord" scenario in Battle in Normandy. Prior to opening registrations though I wanted to gauge public opinion as to whether SSG and the testers should be allowed to play in this tournament.

What do people think? You should all be reminded that during the Rommel Tournament - the only two people who had any experience with that scenario were JSS and myself. I lost my Round 1 game and JSS didnt survive past round 2.

I say let SSG and the testers play.. ??

This seems to me to be like a double "first release", having to contend with a new scenario and a new game engine at the same time. Will there not be any time to get used to the new rules and system, etc.?

Nope.. not alot of time really.. the whole idea of the First Release Tournament is so that its played without alot of battle experience..

Rob, they are probably itching to play. Put them all in the same part of the draw so they have to play each other and will eliminate each other.

( I learnt this from table tennis in the Olympics)

Yeah we could do that, or just use the new bidding system where their opponents get a head start of x points.

Its not like I expect to win 5-6 games in a row to win a tournament; its the playing that I look forward to.

And by playing someone experienced with the scenario I'll pick up more ideas and tips to inflict on my next non-tourney opponent.

Save me a spot.

No problem with letting them play. I never survived a first round anyway :).

Do we get a medal?
