Got an interesting idea about a new scenario design? ...or maybe you just need some help with the Scenario Editor; this is the place!

Limits?

Postby Captain Cruft » Sun Jan 20, 2008 1:09 pm

After leaving this game alone for a while I now seemed to be moved to do something with it i.e. create a scenario. Mostly because I have worked out a way to overcome my graphical inadequacies and deal with the mapping.

However, before starting, I would just like to confirm what the limits are?

Map = 250x250 hexes?
Overall Units = ???
Units per Side = ???
Units per Country = ???
Formation badges (in the counters file)?
Strongpoints/VP locations etc.?

I suspect I am prone to making something large, so it's quite important.

Any information gratefully received, thanks :)

IIRC, the other hard limits are:

- 6 countries per side
- 95 unit (type) counters per country (this includes HQs and supply counters)

Some limits exist for SP and supply source pictures (have never needed more than available picts on these).

Excellent, thanks JSS.

The 95 counter types will enforce an overall limit on HQ-enabled formations, and therefore by implication on units too. It should be plenty though.

Expect a working scen sometime before 2012 ... ;)

Getting my head round it, slowly ...

Though my ambitions are big I have decided to do something small to start with. My first map is now basically done as you can see below. It's 47x23 hexes and took about 10 hours. It's not a work of art though ;)

The full version will be revealed when I have an actual scenario to go with it.

That looks really neat CC though I need binoculars to see any detail  Any chance of a slightly larger view?

I love the topic - can't wait to see the result. Feel free to yell out if you need any 'soft' assistance. I am pretty busy but am always happy to help with advice if I am able.

Cheers

Thanks for the heads up.

I'm dealing with it all OK as of right now. The editor is what I would call VERY quirky but at least it's consistent in its madness ;)

If I can carry on at this rate I might have something to play test quite soon. I'm concentrating on getting something that works together first which can be play-tested, then I can worry about the graphical niceties e.g. correct patches on counters while that's going on.

Here is a half-size map. Please note that the brown areas will become "Dense Forest" before I'm done, instead of the "Heights" that they are now. I am using the Market Garden terrain and CRTs to simply things and incorrectly assumed that Heights was a tougher defensive terrain.

That is really neat - I can't wait to see it operational.

Here's another teaser for you.

Not much to do now, mainly the US OOB. So (ignoring the incorrect counters) hopefully I can release it for testing by the end of the week.
