Direct Fire

When designing a new scenario, can the direct fire range be changed?

Interesting question.

My guess would be that combat units (units that have to engage in either ranged/2 hex or close quarters/1 hex combat to in order to inflict losses) can't have a range of over 2 hexes.

Direct fire is set at 2 hexes. The only way to get around this is to make a unit be an artillery type unit (i.e. to have functioning direct fire at longer ranger)... draw back is that the unit cannot engage in direct combat.

JSS: That would also mean that the unit would be able to fire at entrenched units, which a regular Direct Fire unit can not. The unit would also be unable to get replacements, amongst other things.

By the way: what kind of bonus does the "armoured" state of an artillery unit give (sorry if it's explained in the manual, but I only just noticed it in the editor)?

Good question. Haven't used this deliberately; not sure what its used for...
