I wanted to the winner of the TAO3 Tournament to play a head to head against Roger and I was planning on that being an AAR (but that will depend upon how busy Roger is with BIN Programming)..

I dont say that to put any other AAR's off.. thats not my intention infact the more the merrier :) So JSS Im happy for an AAR based upon you and your final opponent.

Yeah 64 players would be nice, but maybe 48 is a batter idea with a 3 way Final.

I vote for 48. Let's get this show on the road.

And let's bump my postings count up with this nearly useless comment. I'm sick of being in boot camp.

64 players, 48 players all would be good. I would vote for the 64. I am recruiting some through my PBEM games that I am doing right now. As long as the selection commitee pairs me up with Rob ... grins.

Coincidence? I think not - perhaps its a sign.....

Then you'll find it no coincidence that GEN Balack's 11 Pz Div is the best unit in the scenario!

I've had "Panzers on the Eastern Front"; General Erhard Raus ... '41-'45 for several years now. Read it through several times. There's some great stuff on the battles along the Aksay River; north of Verkhniy-Kumskiy. These were also battles to reach the 6th Armee.

Does anyone know of the best reference to Balck's military career? I have a few books that talk of him but in no detail. I would like more details.

Good reading

Here is the list of registered players: We have 49 - I dont think we will get the anticipated 64 - but thats ok we can start the Tournament with 48. 49, gives us one reserve, and in a field this big the chances are that they may be called upon to play. Any other players who would like to play, please continue to register as reserves.

Had you given thought about 48 into 32, 24 winners plus 8 closest non-winners?

Whats that mean in English Carl? :)

We will probably do 3 brackets of 16, with the 3 winners playing each other off for the championship.

Or, as I suggested earlier, you could just play a regular elimination tournament until you get to 3 players and then they play off. So you go from 48 to 24 to 12 to 6 to 3 and then those three play off. Not that much different from the way you just suggested Rob, but just wanted to throw it out as an alternative.

Yeah its pretty much the same.. Im just doing the draw now :) Of course it will be totally random, which I will explain once I have worked it all out..

Ok for those who are interested the Round 1 draws have been based upon the following;

Players were sorted Alphabetically via Real Names, then starting from the top, each player was assigned a number of 1, 2 or 3 moving down the list, this was then sorted so that all players with 1 were grouped, all 2's group and all 3's in a group. Then again, each player moving down the newly sorted list was given a number of either 1 or 2, and these was then again sorted so that all of the 1's were at the top and all of the 2's were at the bottom. This is the new order which the brackets will be based upon, and I have then just paired players up as they are listed in that final sort.

These are the Round 1 draws, http://run5.wargamer.com/RommelTourn.htm

The Scenario will be made available for download either Tuesday or Wednesday night Sydney Australia Time. Games can commence as soon as the scenario is available.
