War in europe problem

Postby flick » Mon Jan 11, 2010 9:37 pm

Hiya.

I'm just playing the russian campaign at the moment, and I'm playing both sides too. Although the campaign is great fun, the game keeps crashing on the russians forth turn. I've downloaded all the updates from these forums (that I know of) and Im wandering if there is anything I can do?

I had the problem before, but it started working briefly again before crashing whenever I change over, to take the russian side.
Thanks.

The BiI engine isn't the most stable engine if there are lots of units on the side of the map or on reinforcement hexes. Likewise, fortifications can also cause the game to crash.

The map/scenario combined with the unit counters might also simply be too vast for the engine.

If it crash's on the russian campaign, how do you ever run the europe wide one?
Is their a way to delete some petty units or fortifications, to help against crash's?

Strongpoints, mines or anything on the edge of the map will cause the game to crash. Sometimes, the game will crash for some obscure reason. I also had On to Moscow crash on me after I edited it and pulled all the Soviet units out of line and placed them in a defendable position. The engine didn't like that and it crashed on turn 4 or so.

Kharkov 1943/Last victory in Russia also crashes from time to time vs the AI, despite my attempts to fix the problem.

Is the BII editor able to delete units on the edge of the map?
Should I just keep trying to take my turn and hope it will work?

Are there any units/strongpoints on the edge of the map to begin with in War in Europe?

You can edit unit, strongpoint, and minefield placement with the editor.

There's a border unit on the edge of the map, I've not used the editor before. Can I load up my saved game and edit it?

Editing will also change the version of the scenario, so any pre-edit saved games will no longer work.

Of course, if the border unit is mobile, you could move it.

I've allready re-started the russian campaign twice, I can't be bothered to start all over again!

And I have a border unit that won't move from the edge, annoyingly. Oh well, maybe someone will do barbarossa in the future.

(Besides, I couldn't get the editor to work, they're was no editing option strangly)

Im the author of this game.. and whilst I did get reports from other people about it crashing now and again it never crashed for me.. so I could never track down what the problem was to fix it.

Nonetheless, I dont have spare time anymore to support this..

I could have multiple saves, but the platform just seems too unstable.

Maybe someday, someone else will do a simplified copy?
