Help!

Postby dwinston » Fri Mar 03, 2006 4:59 am

I just downloaded and played the Barbarrosa scenario - Played as Germans and went through first turn - ended turn and clicked on the far right button (combat scene) and nothing happens. Waited for about 15 minutes. Does it take longer than that to resolve? I have a 3GHz machine with a gig of memory.

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forums!

Well, I don't mean to be rude here but you should try reading ALL the details on the scenario. Barbarossa is a P.B.E.M game, meaning it has no AI whatsoever, and you are recommended to play by e mail for best results (human v human)

OK here is an update to the Barbarossa scenario... it fixes the following:

- Surrender rules for Russia now fixed, Russia will surrender when Moscow, Lenengrad AND stalingrad are all captured - NOT when only one of them is captured.

- Russian units can now blow bridges.

These files need to be unzipped and then placed in your Battles in Italy\Europe\Barbarossa folder - replacing the existing files.

Please report any problems, issues or anything else which you think needs to be addressed.

ROb, the scenario looks great, jsut a couple comments/questions:

1. The maneuver units are generally divisions, did you consider creating Corps or Army structures to contain them?

2. It seems like units can move much, much, MUCH too far in a single turn....

Hi, the reason is because the turns are made to be two and a half weeks long.

Army/Corps are done in the OOB screen.

Not relaly an answer.

The turns might be 2.5 weeks, but that doesn't mean the units need to be able to move that far. At this scale, there are all kinds of enemy forces that do not appear as units - rear echelon troops, supply, HQs, etc., etc. At the operational level, you cannot simply go blazing down a road at full speed through enemy territory for two weeks at a time.

And the Army/Corps thing is simply a suggestion to use the existing Corps/Division structure to group up the current divisions into Corps. We are using a game designed for Brigade/regiment maneuver units grouped into Divisions to represent division maneuver units - seem to make sense to group those into the next higher grouping, Corps or Armies.

Perhaps that is simply not possible though, I am not familiar with the flexibility of the engine...

WaR is right.. we are limited to 80 turns in the game.. so to cover that whole period of the war then units do need to be able to move quite far in that time.

I would say that its a limitation of the engine.. but then again the engine was never designed to handle a game on this scale.

I installed the original War in Europe

Then installed the update – version 0.20

At least I think so.

Then installed the recent update for Barabrossa

I note that when I open War in Europe, there is no version number on the splash screen.

WiE Patch 0.21 has been posted to the scenario download page. This patch relates to the Barbarossa scenario only and brings it up to the same version as of that thats being played in the Multiplayer Game.

There will be more updates to this scenario in the future.. I just need to find the time to get to it :)
